Montreal is only a couple of hours away by car from Ottawa. You’d think that Helen & I would cycle there frequently. Unfortunately this is not the case as we have plenty of good cycling in our own back yard.
Yesterday we decided to experience a small sample of what Montreal has to offer cyclists. We were not disappointed. As mentioned in previous posts, Montreal has an excellent network of cycle paths and rights of way.
Montreal Cycling Routes
Helen & I started our ride in Old Montreal (Highly recommended). Surprise Number 1 was that the City of Montreal has come through on their promise to provide bicycles for the masses – this in the form of Bixi, a Paris-like (Velo Libre) system of bike rental stations placed strategically throughout the city.
We had no real plan. A good thing as I could have easily gone wild with the choices in front of me!
Our trip took us through Old Montreal, down the bike paths that go Along the revitalized Lachine Canal to the Atwater Market and back towards the Old Port. We then crossed the Ile de La Concorde bridge onto Ile Notre Dame and Ile St. Helene. This is the site of the former Expo 67 and the Montreal Grand Prix. One could easily while away an entire Summer day on these 2 islands alone.
I especially like this image of a pregnant woman cycling along the Lachine Canal!
Here is a selection of some of the photos we took.
Cycle on!

thx for review …; i may get to montreal this summer … and will surely test the routes and my Quebecois accent
ps – I once actually rode to Paradise
