Spinning – Back from Injury Purgatory

I sometimes forget how lucky I am. In my case I am fairly active. That in itself is good luck. To my point — I really never get injured. Then just over  a month ago I started having severe pain in my lower back. I won’t go into any more details. Save it to say, I have been out of commission in terms of Spinning and any long walks.

Things were bad enough for me to go to my Doctor who gladly gave me a prescription for an anti-inflammatory (drugs are not my thing). She also suggested I see a physiotherapist.

My job entails some travel… Sooo I kind of forget to follow instructions… didn’t get better and actually got worse.

I have focused on Physio and stretching effectively for the past few days. It’s helping.

Tonight I went Spinning after a 7 day hiatus. Good move. We were treated to as superb class given by my favorites Jo & Linda. These fine ladies had us all going full tilt. No pain, just “tenderness” in my lower back. I can live with that.

Class was followed by 30 minutes of stretching. The icing on the cake was Jo showing me her famous “butt stretch”. She suffers from similar back pain. It really sucks.

Spinning Rule #1: Add stretching to the end of every Spin class. And I don’t mean 3 minutes. Go for 20 minutes of some deep stretching. Your body will appreciate it!

biking is pretty easy on the body …. but the back can be tough. Take good care of it (stretching, posture, office ergonomics (PC position) bike position, sleep position)…. hope you recover quickly, all the best

Hi Will – Yes I agree. I have no idea how I did this to myself.

Thank goodness I have health insurance. These trips to physio would kill my pocketbook otherwise!

Just back from Spinning. So far so good. Let’s see if those nasty muscle spasms return again at 3 AM.

    Hi Les!

Great site – guess you enjoy cycling and spinning eh? ;-)

I see you mentioned the night that Jo and I team taught RPM – that was a great night for us too! I’ve attached a link to the photo that you took for us, I never did get to thank you. =)

    See you in class,
    Lynda
