My buddy Peter sent me an e-mail a few weeks back asking me if I’d like to participate in a bike/run event with him in early May. Being the good friend that I am, I quickly agreed. I never thought that it would actually be a competition! I haven’t competed in anything for years (Lining up for a Boxing Day sale is not a competition. It’s an obsession!). And, I have never (ever) been in a bicycle race.
Well, I am committed to the process now. Peter has been training all Winter (He’s the runner in this). I have been trying to train. But it is frikkin’ freezing out there! I am up to a measly 140 kilometers on my road bike this year. So most of my training work has been indoors at Goodlife.
Here’s the drill. We are participating in a Long Duathlon (5Km Run / 38.4Km Cycle / 5Km Run).
So: Pete | Les | Pete.
This is the perfect scenario. He starts and finishes. All I have to do is cycle for 38.4 kilometers (like a mad man). I can do that.
Consider this, the classes go up to 75 and over (age group). We are actually youngsters!
The race is on Saturday May the 2nd. Stay tuned for a post race update. “I hereby commit to writing a post race BLOG post no matter how we place.”

Good luck to you!
