Cycling – My First Ride of The Season – Early and Unexpected

Lucky me! I never thought I’d be able to get out on my bike until April (At the earliest). Living in the world’s coldest capital does have its disadvantages too! This past Sunday (March 7th) proved to be warm enough (+ 6 Celsius) for me to get out and do a quick ride. Bonus! Last year, I was not able to get out until April the 13th.

On top of that I got to try out my new Road Bike. Yes I know… Why did you get a 3rd bike Les? Well that’s another story – for another BLOG post. Save it to say that I feel that cycling is many things. And that there are various types of bikes to suit different circumstances and environments (Said with a straight face I might add).

My ride was short (a wimpy 4 km.) as frostbite would have set in otherwise – LOL. However, the fact that I got out in March makes me quite happy!

Special thanks to my friend Groover, who, unbeknown to her, has provided me with motivation to get back on a road bike after a very long hiatus.

Blog post on the new set of wheels to follow.

    I like the Bike looks very Expensive.The Saddle is very High I might get Vertigo and having to Lean that far over on to the Handlebars would not do my Back very good. It must Fly along the Road. You would need Ice Free Roads to really enjoy it.

    I know the way you feel about Bikes,I cant seem to get enough of them. I am at the moment Contemplating getting a Nice Pashly Sovereign that I saw in a Bike Shop the other Day,it is Beautiful but Expensive.
    However not as expensive as some Racing Bikes that can cost over € 4,000 this Pashly costs €800 it was Originally €900, in Uk it is generally £569 Sterling. It is rather like an Old Raleigh in Style with 5Speed Sturmy Archer Gears Chain Guard, Coat Guard ,Rollar or Drum Brakes Hub Dynamo and Schwalbe Marathon Tyres with a Rear Kick Stand.Every time I am in that Shop I Drool over it,I just had to go back there a second Time to have a look.I have 4 Bikes already,one is a Beater a Hardtail Hybrid,the Brompton,an Old Dahon battered Foldy and my best Bike the Dutch Crossframe.

    Decisions Decisions,most People think I am Mad already whenever I get a new Bike they say O No not another Bike John you are Stark staring Bonkers.They do not understand do they ,it is hard to explain what Utter Joy is Felt.Happy Cycling in Canada on Yer New Bike.

      Thanks Jack —- 4 bikes is a good stable. I have 3:

      * Hybrid Trek for touring
      * Specialized for fast rides
      * WorkCycles Secret Service (my baby) for tooling around town.

      What’s next?

    Nice S Works Les! You need to bring that thing down to Cali so we can do some 100 mile rides along the beach.

    • Les Faber says:

    I’m intrigued. How did I do that? You’ve got a very nice bike. Well done, getting this first outside ride in so early, even though it was only a short one. Don’t worry, there will be many more rides follow soon.

    • Les Faber says:

      How did you do it? you ask…. I have been reading your BLOG for over a year. It (along with other things) inspired me to get back on a road bike. I rode when I was a “young lad”. Back when Shimano only sold fishing reels!

      -7 Celsius at the moment. If it goes above +4, I’ll get back out there today.
