Wake up! It’s Saturday. Look out the window….. Things look promising. A forecasted high of 13 degrees Celsius (balmy weather for March!).
ToDo:
- Check tire pressure on bike
- Get clothing ready
- Fill water bottle and bring snacks
- Eat hearty breakfast knowing very well that you can eat like a pig – you’ll burn it off
- Confirm loan of iPhone from Helen (gonna map this ride using the iPhone App Trails and post the route to EverTrail). Oh I am such a Geek at times!
- Touch base with my buddy Sergio
Check, check, check….. All systems are go!
I met Sergio at the corner of Greenbank and Barnsdale Roads at precisely 1 PM. The Italians can be just like the Swiss at times.
A quick discussion on our route and we were off.
A very nice ride my friend.
I had a route planned out in mind. But was worried as Sergio had already done Spin & Body Pump classes in the morning. Plus we had never ridden together. In fact this was my first ride with someone else on my new road bike. Any fears I did have were quickly put to rest. Sergio is a great rider and fun to cycle with.
One of my other goals today was to try out a new iPhone application called Trails. It is reputed to be the pick of the litter when it comes to GPS-based cycling applications for the iPhone. Consider this a mini-review. This is a pretty nifty application. Turn on iPhone, go to Trails app. Add a new track, click record. That’s basically it. There is also a handy button that hooks you to the (crappy) iPhone camera. All the pics you take are GeoTagged. So you can actually show them on the map the application creates. When I got home, I uploaded the route we took to EveryTrail.com. This is a great way to save and share the routes you take. Gotta love social media!
Likety split – and you are done!
And some more pics
And if you got this far….. Here’s the route we took
Saturday Ride with my Buddy Sergio at EveryTrail
Map created by EveryTrail:GPS Geotagging
Get out and cycle! What’s stopping you?

nice app!
I dont have a iPhone but I think about replacing my cyclometer with a garmin one!
The great part is that if you have an iPhone you are not spending 100′s of dollars on a piece of equipment that has limited use.
+1 to that! but i’ve got a BB
Do you know if the altitude reported by the app is taken from google map or if it is the real gps altitude?
Hey Philippe — I believe that the altitude is from the GPS. I suggest that you check though. Also — good news — there is a Blackberry Application that has just been released. Look on the EveryTrail site!
Looks like a great ride! What a beautiful day (compared to today O.o) Also looks like a pretty cool app. Going to have to give it a try.
Hey there — like your new Avatar. I am always looking for good local rides. The Trails app is cool simply because it is not labor intensive. Plus EveryTrail has come a long way. Too bad the iPhone has such a poor camera! If you record any good rides, let me know, I’ll post them. I wouldn’t mind seeing your route into the city. I am going to do one from Barrhaven to downtown.
