Helen & I recently spent a wonderful 7 days in the Mayan Riviera (Mexico). What an awesome trip (story for another BLOG). Each day we went for a long walk along the beach. One of our destinations was a little seaside town called Puerto Morelos.
I am always interested in seeing how people employ bicycles for daily activities. In the case of this small town, there were plenty around. You will note the working bikes in my Flickr photos (below). You may also notice tha these bikes (on the most part) were pretty beaten up. Bike maintenance does not seem to be a priority (nor is road maintenance – LOL). Most of the daily riders I saw were rusty and ill-maintained.

I love ‘m rusty and beat up, only shows they’re actually being used, instead of serving as fancy pancy window dressing
. Thanks for sharing!
A bit too rusty. I noted a real lack of bicycle maintenance – in every bike I saw.
I have a rusty beat-up bike I am currently rebuilding. It has a 1951 license plate on it. It belonged to my father. My youngest son and I are working on it together.
That’s pretty neat! When I was a kid, I used to travel the neighborhood on garbage day – collecting old bike parts. I’d then assemble them into all sorts of interesting things. It drove my Mom nuts! Good memories…..
Still remember the Easy Rider clone I built in 1970.
Enjoy the “rebuild”!
