As an avid cyclist I have come to realize that we are a “different breed” so to speak and have completely different experiences on the road as opposed to motorized vehicle drivers.
CyclePig made an excellent post on this very topic recently. I thought I’d poll our readers to see what you think.
From his BLOG:
Worst Cycling Situations
Unfortunately not all of the cycling we do will be to our liking. And there are many different cycling situations that we may find uncomfortable or even dangerous. But like everything in life we all have different tastes.
- Do you tremble in fear when cycling through busy cities – OR – is this just another opportunity to demonstrate your awesome bike handling skills while you pity the poor souls stuck in traffic?
- Does your life flash before your eyes as you power along busy highways – OR – do you own the road and view this as the best way of getting somewhere fast?
- Do you dread the massive effort required to cycle up hill – OR – do you laugh at the ultimate challenge of man against mountain?
- Do your knees wobble when confronted with a long and steep descent – OR – do you descend like a leaf on the wind while belting out your favourite pop tune?
- Does your blood run cold at the thought of cycling down a long, dark and busy tunnel – OR – is this just an opportunity for you to practice making spooky noises in the echoing cavern?
- Do you scream like a little girl when cycling off road – OR – do you carve the perfect line through singletrack?
I believe that things are what you make of them. Cycling requires foresight and the ability to anticipate what may/could happen.
What do you think?

Having snow and ice outside without anywhere to cycle. Now that is bad!
Hey Les, thanks for mentioning the post!
@CyclePig: my pleasure. I’ll say it again. You have a great BLOG — and even better stories. Hello to the “Mrs.”
