Cycling when it gets cold in Quebec City – brrrrrr

`I got out for a ride yesterday and guess what? I think that winter is coming to Quebec City at a big “S” Speed! Let me explain. Quebec City is always cooler than Montreal or Ottawa. But with the weather that we have had in the last month I actually feel more like we are in October then August.Trees are slowly getting red and the temperature for today was about 14 degrees Celsius. Today on my 1 hour ride, (that only last 45 minutes) I got my both ears frozen. I’m also training with a cold that I caught 2 days ago.

I might get a home trainer faster than what I thought… At least I learned that it’s a bad idea to go out cycling
when you have a cold..

So that brings me to a question: How do my fellow cyclists deal with colds and cycling?

Achoo!

  1. Just got over a cold, too. I usually don’t ride at all until I’m symptom free. From experience it takes longer to get over it when you keep riding through the cold and you end up loosing more time and fitness than when you just give your body the time to recover properly.

On another note: I feel embarrassed complaining about our winter. Your summer is colder than our winter. :-O

Thanks for sharing! Your advice is probably the best thing to do. I’m almost done with the cold… I think I might be able to start cycling again tomorrow… Will probably go out to do a little Quebec city “photo tour” in my next couple of posts

    Thanks again!

  3. I haven’t tried cycling with a cold, but when I used to go to the gym regularly there were times I was able to work out and sort of “burn off” a cold that was starting. If it’s already got you in it’s grips, though, you’re probably better off to rest and have some chicken soup ;)
