Part of cycling alone is that you have plenty of time to think about topics otherwise relegated to the far reaches of your thought process. Being a male, I can freely admit that my mind wanders whilst cycling (Helen will tell you that it always wanders).
A personal anomoly I recently noticed is that when passing a herd of grazing cattle, I say “hello”. I am not sure why I do this. But I do.
Perhaps it is pitty as I think my “hellos” are more sincere when addressing cattle being farmed for more carniverous uses. Don’t get me worng, dairy cows do get my respect. But those big (future) Angus (burgers) really get my attention.
Take this cow for example. A run of the mill dairy cow. Lots of milk and dairy products in her future:

She gets my average “hello.”
Whereas this fellow deserves the BIG “HELLO!”

Do you say hello to cattle when you pass them on your cycling adventures?

I say hello to pretty much everything I pass on a lonely ride (unless I\’m too far in the red zone and don\’t notice what\’s on the side of the road). But I do prefer my cows and bulls alive rather then as steak.
My theory seems to have merit. In retrospect, I think I do say hello to “pretty much everything” I pass also. Maybe it’s the preponderance of cattle in my area? Or perhaps it is my affinity to the Far Side series?
In the interest of cultural diversity here, cows might also get an \”El Moo-O\”. Never know if they speak Spanish. The alapacas on the other hand, are resolutely silent. They generally get a \”Hello Critters!\” as I coast by. I think they must communicate telepathically.
