It is well known that Quebec City is an awesome place for cyclists. But I think that there is a better place for cycling – not inside Quebec City, but around the city.
I took a ride last Friday to Ile d’Orlean. It’s an island in the St. Lawrence River not too far from Quebec City.
I only have 3 words about my ride: What A Ride!
120 kilometers of pure fun… hills, flats, big hills… You can get whatever you want on that island… The island itself is wonderful. There’s lots of great stuff to do on the island and the views are wonderful.
L’ile d’Orlean is great for cyclo-tourists. There are many great restaurants and nice Auberges (B&Bs). And for the more competitive amongst you, the island tour itself is 68 kilometers long with lots of different terrain.
I think I will do the ride again before the end of the summer in order to get more an d better pictures.
Here is the route I followed:
Let me know what you think!

Beautiful photographs. Looks like an awesome place to ride. And some decent hills, too.
Hi Philippe,
This is a route that I would be very interested in cycling. I would guess, given the location, that it is likely a short season to ride there. When would you recommend going?
Thanks,
Helen
Helen: If cold weather is not a problem for you(10-20C depending…) I would strongly suggest to do that ride in the 2 first week of october
http://competitivecycling.blogspot.com/: Yeah it’s a good place to practice your climbing skills….
When i’m doing those rides I remember that I’m so lucky to live in Quebec city… probably one of the best place in north america for cycling(except for the winter…)
