I am falling behind in my BLOG posts. Think about it….. Ride or write? Ride wins! I’ll be whistling a different tune in December.
Last Saturday I went on a solo ride with my pals at the KNBC.
We met in Barrhaven near the corner of Jockvale & Greenbank.
After receiving instructions and a map, we headed south on Greenbank (Darn, I forgot my camera!). This is usually a nice country road with little traffic (it was last Saturday). We had to do a small stretch of Prince of Wales prior to turning onto Bankfield (Note to self: Don’t get into the turning lane too early – especially when there is a massive tanker truck coming behind you.).
From there it was along Bankfield to Manotick. I do not recommend this road to anyone. There is no shoulder, and it seems that some drivers view it as a drag strip. Not a safe place for cyclists.
Then south we went through Manotick and on to River Road. Great road surface, but too many motorized vehicles going too fast (I am not a sissy!). Some of us went through Manotick Estates and looped back to Roger Stevens via Snake Island Road.
Oh yes, here’s my route. How could I forget?
And then along Roger Stevens to the Kars turnoff.
Point of Interest: Kars General Store. They sell everything here. Included amongst Mr. Smith’s bag of tricks is a Slushie machine. I was 7 again! Can you say brain freeze (4 times)? Some people never learn.
Our trip out terminated with a superb picnic under the trees at the Baxter Conservation area. I was a bit bummed out as we all got snagged for a Toonie apiece for the use of their facility.
The ride back took us along First Line Road. Not much traffic, but a crumbie road surface. I guess you can’t have it all!
Total distance: 54.2 kilometers
Other Club members did more as they started out further away.
