I forgot how much I enjoyed Saturday morning rides! My buddy Barry called me last night and asked if I was up for one. Being a bit wary (he caved last Sunday), I made him wait for my answer all of 3 seconds.
Barry showed up as promised at 9 this morning. What a stellar day! I had a loose route planned out in my mind. And we were off.
I ride a hybrid road bike, and Barry has a 100% road bike. This poses a challenge as the road resistance Barry enjoys is somewhat less than what I have with my bike.
On our way out, things went well as the wind was at our backs. I think Barry was holding back and letting me regain my cycling confidence (he is a great guy!). We averaged around 25 kilometers per hour.
The route back to our place was into the wind. Barry clearly had the advantage with his road bike. He was able to maintain an average of about 25 Kmph. I was not!
Overall our trip took us from Stonebridge (Barrhaven) out to Richmond, up towards Stittsville, and then back on Fallowfield Road – with a transition to Strandheard Road.
Total distance travelled was 41 kilmometers. Respectable for the first run of the season. You can see our route here .
